Title: installing the 2008-06-02 Aos from Native Oberon.
Post by: peasthope on June 12, 2008, 06:21:17 PM
Folk,

Currently I have no working Aos.  I must find a
way to install it from Native Oberon 2003-01-05.

AosInst.Tool hints that the OBL which Partitions.Format
will install, will no longer work for Aos.
"0.b When updating from a BB installation from before 2004 ..."
If this is correct it should be stated more explicitly
in AosInst.Tool.

NO lacks Partitions.UpdateBootLoader.
"Partitions.UpdateBootLoader dev#part OBL.Bin"
can not be used.

Two methods appear possible.
Burn a current installer CD.  [No CD burner here.]
From NO, install the Xmas 2004 Aos and use it as a
stepping stone to install a more recent release.

There are several incidental references to OBL and
BBL but I haven't found systematic documentation.
It would be helpful.

AosInst.Tool states "5.c ... chose the correct boot file ...".
Wrong tense for an instruction.  Please write
"... choose the correct boot file ...".

Thanks,           ... Peter E.

Hmm... I've never tried to install AOS from NO, but...

OBL.Bin is not really a problem. The boot loader is installed when formatting a partition. You can copy the new OBL.Bin (as well as AosIDE.Bin) to your NO partition (backup the old one) and format the partition where AOS should be installed. This SHOULD work.
