Dear All,
   Sage reported availability of 100 cores Tilera CPU. Probably the price tag of an evaluation board is not for "mortals".

  I came across something simpler, yet very interesting. The new  processor is designed by the UK based
  company (guy  from University of Bristol - the same who designed transputer some time ago), and it consists of:
   - 4 cores connected via special internal bus (http://www.xmos.com/technology/silicon-technology)
   - each core can handle up to 8 threads (http://www.xmos.com/technology/xcore) in real time
      (an internal clock @100MHZ gives 10ns resolution)
   - event driven architecture
   - lots of I/O pins to play with
   - and more ...

 I got an evaluation board with the JTAG via USB and an Ethernet connector (https://www.xmos.com/products/development-kits/xc-2-ethernet-kit) for 130 Euro (including EU taxes & shipping).

 All development tools are  FREE of charge, and I got them up and running on WinXP (SP3) and OpenSuse 11.0.

In my opinion this chip has lots of potentials, and it would be interesting to hear what the A2 development team at ETH think about it
(how this architecture fits to the A2 philosophy).

Actually, Tilera has now 36 and 64 core CPUs too, but I'm not aware of costs Grin
By the way it's interesting when the ETHZ Oberon On Chip http://www.oberon-industry.ethz.ch/projects/ooc will be available, if it will be available at all Wink
