Is there any chance to a "self contained" build of A2 within A2 (i.e. without WinAOS)?

I assume you refer to Build.Tool? Just replace all occurences of "../Test/" in the Build.Tool file with the Prefix of any mounted device, e.g. RAM disks.

yes

mounted device, e.g. RAM disks.

thanks, great ...

just a suggestion (since I guess that you have write access to the repository):

Please make this explicit in the Build.Tool file, i.e., by noting that "preferred path" can also be a mount prefix for a native A2 installation.

As far as I understood, native A2 doesn't have the notion of a path.

I do not know if (and in which sequence) A2 walks the list of mounted devices.

PS: A very late remark to the last two notes: Although A2 does not has the notion of a path, the search sequence for files can be seen in the output of FSTools.Watch. With FSTools.SetDefault devicename ~, you can move devicename to the front of the "path"
(Postscriptum added in June 2013).
